Wine preservation is an art that can transform a simple bottle into a real treasure. Whether your wine is resting in the cellar or you are looking to prolong its flavor after opening, here are our tips for respecting the potential of each vintage.
Before opening: the golden rules for your cellar
-
Constant temperature : Ideally between 10 and 14°C, a stable temperature avoids variations which stress the wine and degrade its aromas.
-
Controlled humidity : Maintain a humidity level between 50% and 80%. Too little humidity can dry out corks, while too much humidity promotes mold.
-
Total darkness : Protect your bottles from light, especially sunlight, which oxidizes the wine and alters its color.
-
Horizontal position : Store bottles lying down so that the cork remains in contact with the wine, thus preventing it from drying out.
-
No vibrations : Shaking disrupts the natural development of wine. Install your cellar in a calm and stable place.
After opening: prolong the life of your wine
-
Use the original cap or an airtight solution to minimize contact with air.
-
Place your bottle in the refrigerator. Even for red wines, this slows down oxidation.
-
An opened wine will keep its balance for 3 to 5 days for most reds and whites, but sparkling wines, such as our Kisumé or Baburu ranges, should be consumed within 24 to 48 hours to preserve their bubbles and freshness.
-
Invest in vacuum stoppers or similar to preserve opened bottles for longer.
-
If you have a clean half bottle, transfer the remaining wine into it to reduce the air space.
