Wine preservation is an art that can transform a simple bottle into a true treasure. Whether your wine is resting in your cellar or you're looking to prolong its flavor after opening, here are our tips for respecting the potential of each vintage.
Before opening: the golden rules for your wine cellar
-
Constant temperature : Ideally between 10 and 14°C, a stable temperature avoids variations that stress the wine and degrade its aromas.
-
Controlled humidity : Maintain a humidity level between 50% and 80%. Too low a humidity can dry out the corks, while too high a humidity promotes mold growth.
-
Total darkness : Protect your bottles from light, especially sunlight, which oxidizes wine and alters its color.
-
Horizontal position : Store bottles lying down so that the cork remains in contact with the wine, thus preventing it from drying out.
-
No vibrations : Shaking disrupts the natural aging process of wine. Install your wine cellar in a calm and stable location.
After opening: prolong the life of your wine
-
Use the original cap or an airtight solution to minimize contact with air.
-
Place your bottle in the refrigerator. Even for red wines, this slows down oxidation.
-
An opened wine retains its balance for 3 to 5 days for most reds and whites, but sparkling wines, like our Kisume or Baburu ranges, should be consumed within 24 to 48 hours to preserve their bubbles and freshness.
-
Invest in vacuum stoppers or other devices to preserve opened bottles for longer.
-
If you have a clean half-bottle, transfer the rest of the wine into it to reduce the air space.
